6/29-6/30 F rufous..water worm bin

6/29 female rufous showed up

6/30 watered worm bin,,gave the egg crate of apples
most of the bin was moist and worms thru out
more cardboard and newspaper on top

6/28 main feeder refill

refilled the main feeder halfway

and the past couple just mainly females and so far a male black chinned today

gave more water to the pillbug bin

watered worm bin 6/26

gave the worm bin a coffee container of water,,pillbug bin had condensation on the lid and was warm
lots were on top of the bark and under

when the weather is cool hummers show up,,as it heats they tend not to show up as much

the red headed bird and the female have been collecting lint for the nest in the tree next to the mobile home in the back

they started yesterday and was out there above me this morning as i was harvesting the pillbug pit

6/23 temp 83

some activity at the feeder mostly females
with the temps in the 80's and a breeze they seem to show up

i had standing water in the bin,,put too much in yesterday,,added more cardboard and mixed in the shredded paper in the bin

found a banana peel and a whole banana still left in the bin

all the VC was like gritty dirt,,possibly too wet right as it is

6/22 temp 93

with the high temps the birds are not as active during the day
just a couple females - anna and a male anna

every other day i harvest pillbugs now and the bark seems to work,,gave the bin more water soaked the bark seeing the pillbugs were all over them yesterday and today

worm bin gave a layer of cardboard and shredded paper and watered pretty well

not sure if its getting enough water still

6/20 male anna-- bark for the isopds

saw a male anna show up this morning and females are mostly showing up these days,,new female since yesterday,,kinda flighty and not settling down much as she drinks

and i took out  some paper from the isopod bin and added dead flies,,wet bark and lots of leaves,,the dried bread crumbs i had and soaked a piece of bread with water

and over 3 dozen more added to the bin

6/18 watered bins

seen a few female hummers come by so far


went and got more pillbugs,,doing this every other day seems to work out to get new adults and babies in there
there did seem more today,,put in some thin new green grass

added more grass and watered the pit

had to redo the pillbug bin as to due to ants with my idea for having soil,,but found out where they like to hide out at
under wet newspaper in a corner

the new corncobs in the worm bin had mold already hid them down deeper in the bedding and gave the bin a healthy dose of water in it

6/16 refill

refilled the main feeder,,,about the same activity,,did hear a couple annas this morning while in was outside
and the female black chinned in the top of the tree next to the driveway was there again

gathered another 3-4 dozen pillbugs for the bin again,,lack of bugs in the pit but found a bunch under the water bucket

jon saw a red summer tanager in the tree next to the driveway

took a few banana peels from the rosebush and am re-hydrating them  for the pillbug bin after seeing a couple under the trumpet plant this morning

worm bin update 6/14

saw a female black chinned being vocal in the tree while i was out back this morning then flew off

checked on the bins to make sure they had enough moisture,,they had enough and it was warm in there on the food side and added more water---and there were castings in the food section already

added some horse manure on the other,,dampened it some added over 3 dozen at least or more and dirt to the bin,,some earwigs got in too,,cardboard was till damp in there

a male anna has shown up and still a couple females

the worm bin has is covered with a thin blanket to control the fruit flies,,will check tomorrow on moisture

6/10-6/11

about the same activity ,,did see the black chinned come back yesterday in the afternoon

the trumpet bloomed the rest and the flowers are dieing off

 6/11 started an isopod only bin to multiply them with wet cardboard,,newspaper,,and green weeds

6/9 - 6/10 temp 82

was more bird activity than it has been,,the same couple females and broadtailed

gathered at least 3 dozen more pillbugs making around 10 dozen or so in the bin

crushed 3 dozen or more eggshells added the lettuce from the pit which was mostly eaten in a couple days

threw out a banana and half apple to help with the fruit fly infestation ,,and its airing outside today
the worms seems to be hanging in the area of the celery mix and in the middle where all the moisture is

the trumpet is almost done flowering for now,,no new buds are seen as of yet

6/9 worm bin apples - bread crumbs

had a male broad tailed show up before 5:30 AM

and put 4 Puréed apples onto an 3/4 egg crate and 1/4 egg crate with moisted bread crumbs in the other corner

6/7 6/8

same amount of bird activity ,,couple females fighting and the male broad tailed

trumpet seems to had bloom the few other flowers on it ,,no new growth for new flower pods

thursday 6/7 i opened the worm bin to make sure the worms weren't dead and they all went over to the celery cucumber slop and ate that,,added egg shells,,,,added the corn cob friday

was little activity saw a couple females fight a few times and a male black chinned

did refill the saucer as it was totally dry

6/4 temp 84 breezy

not as much activity today was breezy
saw a couple females and the male broadtailed

did wet down the worm bin found another banana and half apple on the other side of the bin,,moved over to the food side

i'll let it sit for 2 weeks then look at what is going on {june 19th}

will have too see if its too much food in there now

got my worms today and put them in the bin till i see what i can scavenge for another bin

the black chinned came back and a juvenile showed up

the male broadtailed showed up and 2 new female broadtaileds fighting for the feeder at times

was a little activity the thin female and male broadtailed just showed up
