4/12 new demo bin

made the demo bin up again with jeans and egg crates
used just cocoons in it with coffee grounds

4/3 made 2nd FT & FOS Hummer

made the 2nd FT and filled it to the top with egg crates and cardboard
used the last of the pumpki cardboard for the top and added tyhe demo bin on top of that

saw my first hummer compared to hearing them

was a very small anna or a juvi ,,saw it 2 times at the main feeder

4/3 planted veggies - mint - lettuce - broccoli

planted another container of mint to see if it germinates
and planted lettuce and broccoli 

3/23 planted at moms and made a worm tower

planted 3 types of tomatoes,,lettuce,,broccoli,,mint  and made a worm tower from a 4 foot pvc pipe 6 inches in diameter

3/18 new cactus cuttings

put new cactus cuttings in a container and gave it some water and darkness

3/14 out main feeder

put out main feeder for the hummingbirds
painted the grow box and made the bailer bucket

3/3 moved tobacco from heating pad

moved the tobacco from the heating pad and put the tomatoes on it to see if they will germinate
the tobacco is about an inch long or so with just 2 little leaves

2/28 moved worms to new bin

moved about 1/2 a pound to the new purple bin from the phone book bin and gave some more banana peels to the phone book bin

2/22 planted tomatoes

planted 2 containers of Belgian giant tomatoes in the water bottle containers
and aging a new bin for the phone book bin worms  

2/21 tobacco sprouts fed purple bin

had a few tobacco sprouts in the living room container and the peanut jar has 1 so far

gave the purple bin 3 banana peels

2/17 replant pumpkin - plan tobbaco

replanted the pumpkin sprout into potting soil and vermicompost the top is now out and getting light
there were roots up the whole way on the stem from burying it

and planted tobacco to see if this one germintes

put in over a dozen pumpkin seeds in the flow thru to see if i can get those to germinate in there

2/16 fed phone book bin

gave the phone book  bin more banana peels

2/13 fed new bins

fed the 3 new bins with pumpkin

2/8 planted pumpkin seeds peanut jar

planted 4 pumpkin seeds in the peanut jar with 4 worms in there

2/5 hung feeder - more cardboard

hung out the small hummingbird feeder
gave the FT egg crates cardboard and brown paper
gave the juvi bin more cardboard in there also
the pumpkin sprout is doing well and 2 tiny sprouts showed up on the left hand side,,hope those are pumpkin

2/2 heard an anna hummingbird

while working on the vermi trenches out front heard an anna up the street
will put out a feeder on feb 5th

1/30 planted tobacco plant

planted seeds for my tobacco plant and the droopy pumpkin sprout was rising from the light

1/29 fed FT planted pumpkins

gave the FT at least 3 pounds of pumpkin mixed with bread and a layer of ground eggshells
looked in the phone book bin and loads of worms down where i put the banana peels at
the bin keeps tending to keep drying out,,laid a cover on it to slow that down

the pumpkin sprouts i put yesterday into soil seems droopy on the longer one and put more seeds in there to see if those would sprout

1/25 fed bins

fed the 3 new bins pumpkin/bread mixture
and the other covered bin with a banana peel included

1/23 fed phone book bin

gave the bin 8 banana peels
lots of healthy worms and some of the paper in the bottom was broken down

1/20 planted trumpet vine seeds

started the trumpet vine seeds with about 30-40% VC in the container and lots of compost tea

1/16 3 more #s of worms

bought 3 more #s in 3 different bins to raise them in
1/19 still in the peat mos but looking healthy and moving

1/12 banana peel stackable

gave the stackable a fresh banana peel to see what happens as i do know the worms are up top at night
and the FT has worms thru the top in the shredded jeans and pumpkin

1/7 fed FT

fed the FT some more pumpkin and a pair of jeans
worms were where i had put the last feeding and no visible pumpkin in that area

1/4 fed bins

fed the blue compost bin with over a pound of pumpkin,,still chunks of cardboard in it
worms looked healthy

fed the phone book bin with about a pound of pumpkin and gave a dusting of eggshells underneath the pumpkin
worms were in the paper on the bottom where it was wet

the juvi bin had worms in the newer part of the cardboard i had put in and was under a section of pumpkin

12/30 fed FT shred jeans

fed the FT about 1 pound of pumpkin or more
and shredded a pair of jeans with egg crate and added pumpkin to the bucket

12/29 mom's stackable

the stackable looked healthy and in the top left area was already some great compost made
ripped up some more cardboard,brown paper,newspaper for the bottom bin
the old bills are all clumpy looking and matted together
gave the top 3 banana peels and a apple core

12/27 fed demo bin

still lots of cardboard not broken down yet
fed alot more pumpkin,,maybe 2 pounds
the bottom had lots of water but the worms looked healthy in there
put some more cardboard on top and 3 toilet paper rolls

12/24 2 more phonebooks

shredded 2 more phonebooks for the phone book bin and watered it some

12/21 newspaper/cardboard in stackable and juvi

gave the juvi bin last night the calculator paper and some cardboard
the stackable received the shredded newspaper/pumpkin and a layer of cardboard

12/13 FT cardboard

put some more cardboard in the FT
started to rain today and filling buckets and bins

12/9 took out more pumpkin and newspaper

took out a little more pumpkin and all the newspaper i had put in
the newspaper smelled like ammonia all thru it and have a suspicion that it was the pumpkin i had put in there

12/8 removed pumpkin from FT

well the overfeeding in the flow thru wasn't going as i planned as there would be lots of air for the food but the worms weren't in this last pumpkin i had put in
so i took it out for now till it needs more food

took some worms from the compost holding  blue bin and transferred them to the new blue bin to get them to reproduce more

the stackable looks great,,the leaves are nicely breaking down and looks like rich soil already and its not even finished yet

12/6 fed christmas cactus and juvi bin

gave the Christmas cactus a layer of watered compost sludge to see if that helps with microbes in the bin and not just water
gave the juvi bin pumpkin to lure them to one spot to put them in the new bin

and the flow thru has some heat where i put the pumpkin in the other day with no worms in it or around it

12/4 fed FT

gave the flowthru more pumpkin and more newspaper

12/4 NEW CHRISTMAS CACTUS

there are 2 brown sections and one section that is 3/4 gone in an area but the top is nice and healthy
gave a good compost tea soak to it and will let it be and dry out to see if it will bloom

11/27 leaves in FT -11/28 new bin start

put a good amount of leaves in the flow thru and have been misting them to encourage the worms to move up  into them

11/28 another new bin in the works,,just getting the cardboard soaking right now till i harvest more worms for it

11/26 new bin

moved some worms to the blue bin as an experiment with the 2 phone books i had shredded the other day to see how the worms eat thru them

11/25 fed ft- 2nd stackable at moms

gave the flow thru some celery,coleslaw and carrot peelings and coffee filters
took the 2nd stackable out to mom's house to have going out there

11/21 fed flow thru

fed another pumpkin to the flow thru
took about 12 hours for the worms to come up to eat

11/18 made 2nd stackable

made the 2nd stackable for mom to have out there
lots of worms were in the blue bin and lots of wet vermicompost
let the worms stay in there for now to eat the rest till spring and will harvest more of them when they mature to an adult

11/17 fed FT

fed the flow thru the pumpkin 8-10 pounds
and put a good layer of cardboard on top of it

11/14 fed stackable,,gave cardboard to FT

gave the stackable some lettuce..stopped the leachate experiment as they still seem to be living well after a couple weeks of recycling the water thru it
cleaned out the bottom of the FT and found only a few worms down there and torn up some compressed cardboard filler packing

hope to make a stackable this weekend for mom to get going out at her place

11/6 fed blue bin

blue bin still had lots of potato peels in it but gave them a whole juicy pumpkin to eat

the recycling leachate in the stackable seems to be doing well with worms living in it
no dead worm smell as of yet

the pumpkin the the 55 gal flow thru is slowly going away already and lots of mold in there

11/5 gave the juvi bin a bucket full of leaves that were wet over the existing pile in there

11/2 fed pumpkin

gave the bins pumpkin today
the demo bin was dry on top so that received a good dose of water

10/31 3 #S of worms

received my 3 pounds of worms from Jerry Gach the worm dude  today
all worms came in alive and well packed
gave them a sprinkle bath to rehydrate them with a spray bottle
put them all in the 55 gal flow thru which will be easier for now till they multiply

10/28 new demo bin

put away the pretzel bin for now and made the demo bin from pretzel bin
didn't look like many worms in there but just dumped it in the other bin
was quite a few in the coffee grounds

10/27 fed bins

gave the blue bin lots of potato peels and radish tops and 2 burger buns crushed up
the stackable received a few banana peels
and the juvi bin the lettuce scraps

haven't seen any hummers since around oct 25th,,but did give some new water out there if any do come thru
were 2 male hummers the same anna and a juvi with a patch on the throat and red sides about halfway up its neck

10/23 fed flow thru and blue bin

gave the flow thru a few more banana peels and the corn stalks & cobs
gave the blue bin a few banana peels and stirred it up,,lots of babies and juvis and a couple adults

10/22 leaves and birds

gave leaves and cardboard to the stackable
gave leaves to the isopod bin
and 3 hummers are showing up now
a juvi anna with just red on the sides of his head and a patch on its neck
the regular male anna and poss a female

no adults seen yet but there was a almost hatched cocoon on the corn cob

gave the stackable lettuce,,worms were still in the watermelon

moved most of the contents to the blue bin
found 75 out of the 80 worms started with

hundreds of babies and a few juvis in there

very few cocoons seen

made the bin again with cardboard,egg crate and coffee grounds
gave the bin 6-8 pieces of moldy bread throughout the bin 

only 2-3 hummers hanging around

9/19 split stackable

split half the stackable to the juvi bin
cut up the watermelon for them to eat it faster
did see babys feeding off the watermelon already

fed half a watermelon to stackable

cut up apples cole slaw  blueberries carrots celery for the next feeding

gave coffee grounds to the blue bin,,saw very few worms in it

lots of sprouts from the cantaloupe left over in the bin

gave the pretzel bin some water and poked around some,,most worms were down in the bin a few small babys in there

isopod bin seems well,,seen babys in there and some on the coffee 

9/7 fem rufous -- fed stackable

female rufous  showed up

and fed the stackable the broccoli celery radish mix

covered with a layer of wet cardboard,,and dry cardboard on top of that

9/4 rain 9/5 cleaned isopod bin

9/4 rained for a few hours and got the stackable a good soaking

9/5 cleaned out some water and muck out of the isopod bin ,,put in shredded cardboard
quite a few babys i'm seeing now

9/3 moved juvis

moved most juvis to the blue bin and half of the material over there also to give the remaining adults a better chance
also put more cardboard and gave some of the coffee ground mixture to them

8/29 fed stackable

fed the stackable the other half  of the bucket with cantaloupe in it

Georgina gave a couple pizza boxes for the cause and shredded them on top

most of the other food was gone but some cantaloupe was still being eatened away  at

sometime around the first of sept i put in the 2 whole corn cobs

8/28 fed pretzel bin & juvis

fed lettuce to the pretzel bin and juvis
put more cardboard in the pretzel bin and a cardboard cover -- then in a box for the darkness

8/26 fed stackable

gave the stackable half of the food bucket which had,,strawberries - lettuce - cucumbers - cantaloupe
in one big clump in the middle of the bin and covered

8/24 fed pretzel bin

gave the pretzel bin some cantaloupe pieces and found a baby worm,,looks just born

8/18 gave watermelon slices to the stackable

8/17 transferred more adults

well after last night got the idea of taking material away from the stackable and making it smaller for the worms to find each other but as i was taking it out i kept finding more tiny babies

they had to have been just bigger than a piece of thread or abouts the same size,,these were newborns and saw some larger juvis in the bin

so i left that the way it was and just gave them more water

i moved another 4-5 dozen at least and still have more in the juvi bin

8/16 fluffed up stackable

went thru and fluffed it up,,a few small juvis in it,,quite a few unprocessed banana peels

was warm down below,,most likely due to the coffee grounds but lots of worms in it
saw some small clumps of worms around eggshells

put newspaper on both ends to help with ones trying to explore the wild west

8/14-8/15 more birds fed pretzel bin

8/14 seems more birds are starting to show up to the feeder
male anna  and a few females

the stackable received the celery mixture with crushed eggshells

saw quite a few around the area of where the celery was dumped
little standing water in the juvi bin --mixed up the bin to the other side
watered the pretzel jar and saw 3 adults in the banana

female rufous and a male anna have been showing up lately,,occasionally a female anna

feed the stackable the celery scraps and took a quick look to see what was going on

and the birds have been kinda scarce,had a female broadtailed yesterday and lately has been a male anna

7/28 new pretzel bin

made the new bin up and started with 80 worms and maybe a cocoon in progress
put in a little coffee filter and horse manure in the layer and a good layer of egg crate

also added more horse manure to the stackable

7/24 I'm a Father !! and moved worms

a new father to 3-4 new baby worms i found today,,could be more in the bin
moved at least another 5-6 dozen to the adult bin

put some more cardboard in the juvi bin to cover up the coffee grounds and gave them a banana peel

watered both worm bins

juvi worm bin had little sprouts in them all over the top and gave them 2lbs of coffee grounds/filters

7/13 male rufous

had a male rufous show up a couple times today
we had our first big monsoon storm of the year ,,a few inches of water  in the buckets i collected

7/10 stacked bin

started the stackable and put 3-5 dozen adult to near adult worms in it
and coffee from the back porch container

7/8 fed worms

gave the worms apples and a banana peel /juvi bin

6/5 coffee grounds

the grounds in the 2lb can went from 3/4 full to down to an inch from mold eating it
soaked the old grounds in the back and made another 2lb can to go

same amount of birds hanging around

4th rain

we had some decent light to mild rain

the worm bin was dry again and let it rain on it and still gave it more water

seems without the cover it keeps drying out quicker than it should
its been only 4 days but having a rain shower seems the best to get it decently wet

and the black chinned turned out to be an anna all this time with the feathers showing different in the shadows

7/2 sprinkles

turned the pillbug bin,,nice and wet underneath,,they ate some of the potato ,,added a handful of leaves
and the bread was all gone
started to  sprinkle at 8:23  AM

about the same activity with the hummers,,midday not many seen with the heat
