4/12 new demo bin

made the demo bin up again with jeans and egg crates
used just cocoons in it with coffee grounds

4/3 made 2nd FT & FOS Hummer

made the 2nd FT and filled it to the top with egg crates and cardboard
used the last of the pumpki cardboard for the top and added tyhe demo bin on top of that

saw my first hummer compared to hearing them

was a very small anna or a juvi ,,saw it 2 times at the main feeder

moved the tobacco from the heating pad and put the tomatoes on it to see if they will germinate
the tobacco is about an inch long or so with just 2 little leaves

2/17 replant pumpkin - plan tobbaco

replanted the pumpkin sprout into potting soil and vermicompost the top is now out and getting light
there were roots up the whole way on the stem from burying it

and planted tobacco to see if this one germintes

put in over a dozen pumpkin seeds in the flow thru to see if i can get those to germinate in there

2/5 hung feeder - more cardboard

hung out the small hummingbird feeder
gave the FT egg crates cardboard and brown paper
gave the juvi bin more cardboard in there also
the pumpkin sprout is doing well and 2 tiny sprouts showed up on the left hand side,,hope those are pumpkin

1/30 planted tobacco plant

planted seeds for my tobacco plant and the droopy pumpkin sprout was rising from the light

1/29 fed FT planted pumpkins

gave the FT at least 3 pounds of pumpkin mixed with bread and a layer of ground eggshells
looked in the phone book bin and loads of worms down where i put the banana peels at
the bin keeps tending to keep drying out,,laid a cover on it to slow that down

the pumpkin sprouts i put yesterday into soil seems droopy on the longer one and put more seeds in there to see if those would sprout

fed the blue compost bin with over a pound of pumpkin,,still chunks of cardboard in it
worms looked healthy

fed the phone book bin with about a pound of pumpkin and gave a dusting of eggshells underneath the pumpkin
worms were in the paper on the bottom where it was wet

the juvi bin had worms in the newer part of the cardboard i had put in and was under a section of pumpkin

12/30 fed FT shred jeans

fed the FT about 1 pound of pumpkin or more
and shredded a pair of jeans with egg crate and added pumpkin to the bucket

12/29 mom's stackable

the stackable looked healthy and in the top left area was already some great compost made
ripped up some more cardboard,brown paper,newspaper for the bottom bin
the old bills are all clumpy looking and matted together
gave the top 3 banana peels and a apple core

took out a little more pumpkin and all the newspaper i had put in
the newspaper smelled like ammonia all thru it and have a suspicion that it was the pumpkin i had put in there

12/8 removed pumpkin from FT

well the overfeeding in the flow thru wasn't going as i planned as there would be lots of air for the food but the worms weren't in this last pumpkin i had put in
so i took it out for now till it needs more food

took some worms from the compost holding  blue bin and transferred them to the new blue bin to get them to reproduce more

the stackable looks great,,the leaves are nicely breaking down and looks like rich soil already and its not even finished yet

12/6 fed christmas cactus and juvi bin

gave the Christmas cactus a layer of watered compost sludge to see if that helps with microbes in the bin and not just water
gave the juvi bin pumpkin to lure them to one spot to put them in the new bin

and the flow thru has some heat where i put the pumpkin in the other day with no worms in it or around it

12/4 NEW CHRISTMAS CACTUS







there are 2 brown sections and one section that is 3/4 gone in an area but the top is nice and healthy
gave a good compost tea soak to it and will let it be and dry out to see if it will bloom

11/27 leaves in FT -11/28 new bin start

put a good amount of leaves in the flow thru and have been misting them to encourage the worms to move up  into them

let the worms stay in there for now to eat the rest till spring and will harvest more of them when they mature to an adult

gave the stackable some lettuce..stopped the leachate experiment as they still seem to be living well after a couple weeks of recycling the water thru it
cleaned out the bottom of the FT and found only a few worms down there and torn up some compressed cardboard filler packing

hope to make a stackable this weekend for mom to get going out at her place

blue bin still had lots of potato peels in it but gave them a whole juicy pumpkin to eat

the recycling leachate in the stackable seems to be doing well with worms living in it
no dead worm smell as of yet

the pumpkin the the 55 gal flow thru is slowly going away already and lots of mold in there

11/5 gave the juvi bin a bucket full of leaves that were wet over the existing pile in there

10/31 3 #S of worms

received my 3 pounds of worms from Jerry Gach the worm dude  today
all worms came in alive and well packed
gave them a sprinkle bath to rehydrate them with a spray bottle
put them all in the 55 gal flow thru which will be easier for now till they multiply

9/21 pretzel bin

moved most of the contents to the blue bin
found 75 out of the 80 worms started with

hundreds of babies and a few juvis in there

very few cocoons seen

made the bin again with cardboard,egg crate and coffee grounds
gave the bin 6-8 pieces of moldy bread throughout the bin 

only 2-3 hummers hanging around

9/4 rained for a few hours and got the stackable a good soaking

8/17 transferred more adults

well after last night got the idea of taking material away from the stackable and making it smaller for the worms to find each other but as i was taking it out i kept finding more tiny babies

they had to have been just bigger than a piece of thread or abouts the same size,,these were newborns and saw some larger juvis in the bin

so i left that the way it was and just gave them more water

i moved another 4-5 dozen at least and still have more in the juvi bin

went thru and fluffed it up,,a few small juvis in it,,quite a few unprocessed banana peels

was warm down below,,most likely due to the coffee grounds but lots of worms in it
saw some small clumps of worms around eggshells

8/6 male rufous showed up

saw quite a few around the area of where the celery was dumped
little standing water in the juvi bin --mixed up the bin to the other side
watered the pretzel jar and saw 3 adults in the banana

female rufous and a male anna have been showing up lately,,occasionally a female anna

4th rain

we had some decent light to mild rain

the worm bin was dry again and let it rain on it and still gave it more water

seems without the cover it keeps drying out quicker than it should
its been only 4 days but having a rain shower seems the best to get it decently wet

and the black chinned turned out to be an anna all this time with the feathers showing different in the shadows

7/2 sprinkles

turned the pillbug bin,,nice and wet underneath,,they ate some of the potato ,,added a handful of leaves
and the bread was all gone
started to  sprinkle at 8:23  AM

about the same activity with the hummers,,midday not many seen with the heat
